ROSE WYLIE'S DOODLEBUGIn my job at York Art Gallery, I have to give a talk to the public which I usually deliver every Friday. The talks are on anything in the gallery that the staff feel inspired by and I chose Rose Wylie's - Artists Early Memories Series No. 2 Doodle Bug.
I was invited by the Friends of York Art Gallery to present this talk to them. This is the information in their newsletter.
Artwork of the Month
The next Gallery talk will take place on Wednesday 11 June at 11.30am when Michael Dawson, a member of the Gallery's Visitor Experience Team, will speak about Early Memory Series No. 2: Doodle Bug by Rose Wylie.
In his talk, Michael uses Rose Wylie's doodlebug painting to take the audience on a passionate journey through her life and contemporary culture. He explains how she takes the mundane and every day, and transforms it into magical and sophisticated artwork that thrills and resonates. Oh, he mentions the war as well!
I am a little nervous!
